About Vaigai Express:

This train service was first launched in 1977. Vaigai Express is a superfast express train of South India. It is very popular for its incredible services. The southern zone of the Indian Railway authority controls the function of this train. Vaigai Express train route is from Madurai to Chennai. It goes via Tiruchirappalli. This one is an old train with an excellent reputation among all the passengers who are the regular customer of this train. In 1970’s there was a massive demand for a train on this route. Because of increasing demand among the public, the authority of Indian Railways decided to start this train in the route between these two cities.

This train covers almost 493 km within a short period. It takes hardly 8 hours to travel from Madurai to Chennai. The Vaigai Express speed is about 63 km/hr. It is the operating speed of the train. It can differ depending on various situations at the time of its journey. This speed of the train helps the passengers to reach their destination quickly. It is known to be the fastest train among all the trains available on this particular route.

About the coaches of this train:

When Vaigai Express started its journey for the first time, it had only 16 coaches. The colour of the coaches was yellow and green. In 1984 more 8 coaches were added to this train and it was recognised as Pallavan Express. This train has three coaches with AC chair car facility, 13 coaches with second class sitting arrangement, two SLR coaches, and five UR coaches along with 1 pantry car coach.
