Tamil Nadu State Launched Free Set Top Boxes Scheme with the help of Arasu Cable TV Corporation
“Free Set Top Box Scheme” is launched by the Tamil Nadu State Government for Television subscribers in the state. The State Government of Tamil Nadu is planning to provide cable connection with high quality for all the families is the main objective of this Free Set Top Box Scheme.

Arasu Cable TV Corporation (ACTV) is supervising the scheme of free set top box which is the Tamil Nadu State owned Cable Networker. The set top boxes are also manufacture by the Arasu Cable and will supply the set top boxes in no more than 3 months. The service of cable set top boxes can be done with ADS (Digital Addressable System).
Set Top Box Scheme for Free
The local cable operators will supply the free set top boxes to the customers. Chennai city is the main control center and all distribution of free set top boxes will be managed here.

Following are the Free Set Top Box Scheme in Tamil Nadu State main highlights:
- The subscriber who are applied for Free Set Top Box Scheme has to pay Rs. 200 for activation of one time process
- Free Set Top Box warranty period is 3 years
- In Set Top Box approximately 180 channels will be accessed in digital form
- Monthly subscriptions with the cost of Rs. 125, 175, 225 & 275 of 4 packages will get to the Free Set Top Box Scheme subscribers.
Also, for Digital Signal Transmission the Tamil Nadu State has launched MPEG 4 customized. With TACTV, approximately 70 lacks subscribers have been registered for Free Set Top Box Scheme and local cable operators will manage these Set Top Box subscribers all over the Tamil Nadu State.
With the help of an Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Department have issued Free Set Top Box Scheme license in order to deliver cable channels in the digital form and this is the 1st State in India to run cable operating service.

Packages of Set Top Box under the Tamil Nadu State Scheme
First Package: The First Package is priced at Rs. 125 per month, In this package 180 channels will be provided in that 158 channels are for free and 22 channels are payable.
Second Package: The Second Package is priced at Rs. 175 per month, under this package 230 channels will be provided in that 158 channels are for free and 72 channels are payable.
Third Package: The Third Package is priced at Rs. 225 per month, under this package 260 channels will be provided in that 158 channels are for free and 102 channels are payable.
Fourth Package: The Fourth Package is priced at Rs. 275 per month, under this package 300 channels will be provided in that 158 channels are for free and 142 channels are payable.
Good and Services Tax (GST) Rate: The rate of GST will be charged at the payment time on the individual pack price and these rate will not included by the GST.
