About Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary:

Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary is the beauty of Nizamabad Tourism. It is situated at a 15 Km from Medak and a distance of 115 km from Hyderabad. The former hunting grounds of Nizam rulers have been transformed into the well-furnished sanctuary.

It covers an area of 130 sq km. It is named after the Lake, Pocharam by which the sanctuary is bordered. The area is plentiful of mixed forest with beneficial patches of grassy and scrub plains.

Therefore it is a favourite spot for birds with its lush green vegetation. Brahminy Bucks, Bar-Headed Goose, Open Billed Stork, Quails and Partridges are few of the frequent bird visitors. This is a feasting place for Bird-Watchers.

Pocharam Sanctuary

Pocharam Sanctuary is also home to various quadrupeds in addition to the winged group. It is especially famous for housing 5 species of antelopes including the 4-horned antelope.

It also a home for various types of deer family including Nilgai, Sambar, Chital and Chinkara. This Wildlife Sanctuary also houses Forest Cats, Leopards, Wild Dogs, Jackals, Wolves and Sloth Bear.

This Sanctuary is also a trekking spot stretching for over 4.5 km which goes through the evidently thick forest. This provides a thrilling experience for tourists to relish the forest atmosphere. The narrow and slim branches of the trees interweave and form a net which makes the forest look very thick.

This makes an exciting experience for no doubt. The nearby water flowing from the dam washes the feet of the tourists. Cars needed to take for enjoying the Pocharam trek.

Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary

Till today, the Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary bears the evidence and remains of the watchtower, which used to keep a watch out for the animals by the Nizams for hunting. If visitors brave and climb the unsteady metal staircase and reach the final position, then the treatment for them is worth the effort.

Manjeera River

A small wall built over the Manjeera River which built with an intention to construct a dam. The small belies of this dam act as Water Park and car wash. Tourists often park their vehicles in order to get them washed naturally. In order to stay, there are various affordable hotels in Medak.

This Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary and lake is a beautiful place for family picnic and trekkers. It helps in refreshing the mind of a person and reorganizes the body.
