About Jawaharlal Nehru: (15th Aug 1947 to 27th May 1964)
He was the Indian Prime Minister who served for the longest period, starting from Independence of India in the year 1947 to his death in the year 1964.
Gulzari Lal Nanda: (27th May 1964 to 9th Jun 1964) & (11th Jan 1966 to 24th Jan 1966)
He worked twice as the Acting PM of India after the expiry of first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Indira Gandhi: (24th Jan 1966 to 24th Mar 1977) & (14th Jan 1980 to 31st Oct 1984)
She was named as “Women of the Millennium” in the year 1999 in a poll organised by BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation). She was the first woman to achieve Bharat Ratna. In the year 2011, she was also awarded “Bangladesh Swadhinata Samman”, which is the Bangladesh’s highest civilian award.
Morarji Desai: (24th Mar 1977 to 28th July 1979)
He was the first non-Congress Indian Prime Minister. He was also the first PM to resign without finishing his full term. He is the only Prime Minister of India to achieve Nishaan-e-Pakistan, which is the Pakistan’s highest Civilian Award.
Rajiv Gandhi: (31st Oct 1984 to 2nd Dec 1989)
He was the Youngest PM of India and assumed the office at the age of 40 years. He was the first Indian PM to live in 7 of Race Course.
P. V. Narasimha Rao: (21st Jun 1991 to 16th May 1996)
He was the first Indian Prime Minister from South India.
H. D. Deve Gowda: (1st Jun 1996 to 21st Apr 1997)
He was the first Indian Prime Minister who was a Rajya Sabha Member.
Manmohan Singh: (22nd May 2004 to 26th May 2014)
He was the longest serving Indian Prime Minister from the year 2004 to 2014 who was a Rajya Sabha Member.
