Online registration of lorry owner and sand booking in the state of Tamil Nadu
From the 1st of July, the government of Tamil Nadu has declared to launch an online portal site which will make the process of purchasing of sand hassle-free and convenient for consumers and builders. So it’s good news for people who are in the construction business.

Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the chief minister of the state, has established this innovative scheme before the commencement of the Assembly Session that day. From the 1st day in July, this facility will be available for builders as well as consumers. The lorry owners and the general public will have the liberty of specifying and securing the quantity of sand that they require through online reservation from the official site. An announcement made by the authorities of the state asserts that “this system, aside from ensuring that the prerequisites for the sand are fulfilled, will also pave the way for making sure sand is available without any hitch and at low-cost rates.”
In response to several questions during the Assembly, details about the portal have been elaborated by the Chief Minister. He has assured that the lorry owners will be supplied with a user manual that will make it straightforward for them to do business in the portal from reserving sand to remitting payment online. Lorry owners will be allowed to book sand online, and the sand can be loaded by them at the scheduled time. Besides, other features such as registration number of the lorry, etc. can be done online in a smooth way.

Mr. Palaniswami has also assured that within a month a center will be made where the payment can be made online in the portal after sand loading. It will make sure that the whole process becomes smooth and seamless. The shortage of sand, according to Mr. Palaniswami, was due to the need for the authorities to give required approvals. Apart from this, there are instances when it is required to visit private properties devoid of proper roads for loading sand. That is one of the major flaws of the offline system of sand loading.
According to the Chief Minister, 29 quarries are functioning in Tamil Nadu at present. 24 of them are used for loading sand, and the remaining ones are used as bullock carts. He is hopeful that soon the scarcity of sand will be reduced and required action will be implemented for opening up new quarries and also sand loading.
