Kerala Public Distribution System has been popular since the 60s for its commendable job in implementing Universal System of Rationing in the state.
Activities and Mission of Public Distribution System in Kerala
Kerala PDS has achieved great success in the last three years. The Public Distribution System in the state is indeed attractive. In between 2002 and 2005 the ration card owners hardly visited ration shops owing to the inferior quality of articles offered there. Just two percent of the cardholders relied on food supplied by the ration shops. But, the scenario has changed now and it has been possible due to the improvement in the food grains’ quality in PDS in Kerala. 2 lakhs of families under the Poverty Line in Kerala are given 1 kg of rice at just Rs 2.
