The Indian Space Research Agency is basically the Government’s space agency in India. The abbreviated form of Indian Space Research Organization is ISRO. The Indian Government (भारत सरकार) established the ISR Organization in the year 1969. It superseded the then Indian National Committee for Space research or INCOSPAR which Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India created in 1962 with Vikram Sarabhai. The formation of Indian Space Research Organization indubitably institutionalized the name of space activities and explorations in our country. The Department of Space (DoS) which reports directly to the Indian Prime Minister, manages it.

The ISR Organization sent its lunar orbiter on 22nd October, in 2008. The name of that is the Chandrayaan-1. It also sent a Mars Orbiter on 5th November, in 2013. We recognize it as Mars Orbiter Mission. It entered the orbit of Mars in 2014, on 24th September. With this, India became the pioneering nation in the world that got success on its first attempt to the planet Mars.
