Paranthe Wali Gali is located near Chandni Chowk in Delhi. Apart from this, it is very famous due to its food shops. In the Chandni Chowk, the lane next to the Shishganj gurudwara is called the street parantha. There are enough old shops to make parathas. This street starts from the main Chandni Chowk and goes to Maliwada at the other end.
At some time there were only Parantha’s shops in the street, but now there are four with changing times. These shops are about 100 to 200 years old. These people who make parathas are from Madhya Pradesh. Taste is such that once you have eaten, you will probably not be able to forget about life. It was said that in 1650, during the establishment of the Red Fort, the Shahjahan – Badh Shah of Mughal, Chandni Chowk formed. It is famous for silver utensils. The shops of Parantha had brought here in the year 1870.
In the later years of independence, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit used to come to have parathas in this street.

Food in Paranthe Wali Gali – परांठे वाली में भोजन
In ancient times, food is traditionally cooked, which is a pure vegetarian and does not contain onion or garlic. This is because the owners of these shops are Brahmins and traditionally include Jain in the neighborhood of the customers.

Paratha is usually served with sweet tamarind sauce, mint chutney, pickle and mixed vegetable, cottage cheese, vegetable of potato and fenugreek, and pumpkin curry (citrus).

Usually, people use lassi with parantha in Paranthe Wali Gali. One particular thing about this place is that Lassi is traditionally served in a “Kulhad” that will win their hearts.

It is very important to tell you that only pure vegetarian parathas are available here onions and garlic are not added because the people belongs to Pandit community and since then their families have adopted this tradition as they are moving forward. Here food is cooked in the rural areas. To make paranthas more exotic, dried fruits like cashews, almonds are also added. Here you will find many varieties of Paranthas.
If you are going to visit Chandni Chowk or if you are in Delhi and you are feeling like eating something good, then once you come here, you should eat parathas on this street. You will not get such taste in any of the big expensive restaurants and hotels. You will still see the glimpse of old India here.
