Akkanna Madanna Temple:

Akkanna Madanna Temple is one of the ancient temples in Hyderabad. It is known as the 17th Century Ancient Temple of Hyderabad. It is also the best tourist places in Hyderabad.

It is a traditional Hindu temple of Goddess “Mahankali” situated in Sahlibanda of Old City in Hyderabad. This temple is well known for the Bonalu Festival and its celebrations in Hyderabad. The Temple is built by two brothers, Akkanna and Madanna belonging to Brahmin Family during 1674 to 1685, time of Golconda Sultanate.

The two brothers were killed during a war with the Mughal Army. These brothers are still remembered in the region of Telangana as great people who are put to death because of their religious beliefs and also known as great administrators. The two brothers, Akkanna and Madanna are the uncles of Bhaktha Ramadasu, who built the temple of Lord Sri Rama in Bhadrachalam.

“Ghatam”, a procession at this temple is a very important event which happens during the festival of Bonalu.

It is a historic temple of Hindus built ago 330 years where Goddess Mahankali is devoted and about 1 Lakh people visit this temple during “Ghatam” Procession.

When to Visit Akkanna Madanna Temple: The temple is open on all days of the year but visiting the temple during Bonalu Festival is special mostly during the procession of “Ghatam”.
