India’s National Research and Education Network is ERNET. It stands for Education and Research Network. This network provides excellent support to the requirements of the education and research community in India. In the year 1998, ERNET India came into existence as an independent scientific society. The Indian Government established it. The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology or MeitY governs the functioning of ERNET.

ERNET India solely operates ERNET Network. It is basically a pan-India satellite and terrestrial network which has 9 points of existence in premier academic and research institutions in India.

History of ERNET

ERNET started this Dial-up network in between 1986 to 1987. In its initial stage, UUCP mail was the only service that ERNET used to provide. People identified it as an Autonomous Society in the year 1998.

ERNET is the most extensive satellite and terrestrial network in India with a significant presence in the leading research and educational institutions in big cities of the country. It focuses not only on providing connectivity but also fulfilling all the requirements of the research and educational institutions. They provide necessary information to all users.

ERNET Domain Registration

It is an exclusive domain registrar for the research domains and education: The domains can be registered under the edu.in, विद्या.भारत, ac.in under the International Domain Names. The .IN Domain preferable to do the business.
