Water supply
At present, Bangalore Water Supply nearly 900 million liters or 238 million gallons of water every day to the city. The municipal demand for water is 1.3 billion liters at present. Kaveri River Project
BWSSB imports majority of the water for the city of Bangalore from the Cauvery River, situated nearly 100 kilometers south of the heart of the city. Bangalore Water Supply undertook the ‘Cauvery Water Supply Scheme.’

Arkavathy River
There are two water reservoirs built on this river, namely, the Tippagondanahalli Reservoir and the Hesaraghatta Reservoir. The Arkavathy River provides 20% of the water used in Bangalore. Due to the discharge of several effluents into the reservoirs, the quality of water has deteriorated.
Sewerage system in Bangalore
The year of the construction of the sewage system of Bangalore is 1922. At that time the size of the city was quite small compared to its present size. The original system provided service only to the central zone of the city. After the expansion of the city took place in the year 1950, the Bangalore Water Supply came into existence. Then the Karnataka State Government initiated several programs with the aim of providing services to the underdeveloped areas of the city.
Plants of BWSSB that deal with sewage treatment
The three central plants of Bangalore Water Supply that treat sewage are at Koramangala-Chellaghatta, Hebbal valleys, and Vrishabavathy. Apart from these three, there are also two mini-plants near Kempambudi and Madiwala.
