Comptroller and auditor general of India (CAG) – भारत के नियन्त्रक एवं महालेखापरीक्षक
It is mainly an authority of the Government of India (भारत सरकार). People of India can find the same in the 148-154 no articles of the Indian Constitution. CAG post also acts as an external auditor in various corporations that comes under the Government of India (GOI). This authority is also doing a few additional audits for some Government companies. There are a group of individual companies work for the Parliament (under the governance of MPA), and also some of them come under the State Governments. These companies look after all the reports of this Comptroller and Auditor General of India (लेखापरीक्षा). These companies have Public Accounts Committees and committees on Public Undertakings. These committees work under the state legislation. CAG heads and controls the Indian Audit and Accounts Department. Almost 58000 employees are working in this department.

The CAG has the equal power as the Supreme Court of India. The name of the recent CAG of India is Shri Rajiv Mehrishi. He is performing the duty since 2017. The Highest post here is the Accountant General. The President of India controls the functions of CAG. He also decides the appointment related issues of the Controller and the Auditor-General of India. It needs the recommendation of the Prime Minister of our country.

GPF Scheme of CAG
This CAG has an excellent online facility. Many people have already received the benefit of GPF online facility. GPF is a unique scheme of this department. It is a contribution fund. It is mandatory for the Government employees to donate here so that they can get their retirement benefits.
All the Government employees have to open a GPF account at the time of appointment. GPF credit cards are also available. With the modern facility of the internet, now the Government employees can download the GPF slips from the internet and check the GPF Balance in an easy process. Along with this they can also be aware of the GPF statement of their account and can even know the GPF status.
CAG Services
CAG performs few duties related to the works of the Ministry of Finance. Some of the responsibilities of CAG are to audit the grants and loans to the particular receiver. The government provides these grants and loans. It also looks after the audits of Panchayati Raj (under the governance of MOPA) and other local bodies. It does the audit of the Government companies as per the Companies Act, 2013. Most importantly it calculates the total receipts and expenditure of the Government fund and also the fund of the State Governments and Union Territories of India.
