The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) launched first in New Delhi in the year 1954 to provide the medical care services to the central government employees of India. They expanded their services and launched CGHS Chennai Branch in Tamil Nadu state in the year 1975. The CGHS works under the MoHFW (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) Department.
CGHM scheme medical services also for the pensioners, parliament members, Indian Presidents & governors, freedom fighters, and Journalists. In Chennai, the CGHS begin with 4 dispensaries. The Administrative office located in Rajaji Bhavan, Basant Nagar, Chennai.
