The CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) started in New Delhi in the year 1954. It providing the medical care services to Central Govt Employees of India. The scheme also extended their services to freedom fighters, pensioners, parliament members, president & governor of India and other specific groups of persons. The Health scheme started their services in West Bengal state and named it as CGHS Kolkata in the year 1972.
In Kolkata has 18 allopathic dispensaries. It also provides the polyclinic services, specialist services in General medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology. You can also find the
Optometrist and Dental Surgeon located in polyclinic and providing services to beneficiaries. The CGHS Comes Under the MoHFW (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) Department.
There are 1 Unani, 1 Ayurveda and 2 Homeopathy units providing many services. The 5 pathological laboratories are attached to the 4 Dispensaries. A Central Medical store can also be located in IC Block, Salt Lake.
