Hyderabad Police (or) City Police of Hyderabad (హైదరాబాద్ పోలీస్) is the Public Law administration service of TS Police Department serving for the Telangana State capital Hyderabad City and is administrated by the Hyderabad city police commissioner (or) the Kotwal, under Hyderabad State the city police discovered its origins to 1847.

History of Hyderabad City Police

The police commissioners who were the “Hyderabad Civil Services” Officers were used to appoint by the Hyderabad Nizam and they used to perform during his gratification. The police commissioners were famously known as “Kotwat” and were responsible for the maintenance of law & order, detecting and preventing crime etc.

The Reorganisation of City Police of Hyderabad

Because of the rapid increase in population, there also came into existence of increasing the crime rate, the city police have reorganized in 1981 vide GO (Government Order) Ms. No. 341, Home (Pol. D) department dated on 30th May of 1981.

Current Organisation of Hyderabad Police

In the list of the Telangana Zones, at present the City Police of Hyderabad has 05 zones:

  • Zone in East – Sri V Satyanarayana (Indian Police Service)
  • Zone in West – Sri A Venkateshwar Rao (Indian Police Service)
  • North Zone – Sumati (Indian Police Service)
  • Zone in South – Sri V Satyanarayana (Indian Police Service)
  • Zone in Central – Sri D Joel Davis (Indian Police Service)

Special Departments of Hyderabad City Police

Hyderabad City Police has introduced some special departments for the public

  • Commando Force
  • Intelligent Unit and
  • Security Battalion

SHE Team

Hyderabad Police Department has introduced the department of SHE Team on 24th Oct of 2014 in order to protect the women in the state.
