Indian Premier League will take over the Indian televisions on April 7, 2018. All the matches of this tournament will be shown on multiple channels and digital space. Governing Council of the tournament is also thinking to advance the evening games from 8 pm to 7 pm. Rajeev Shukla is the chairman of IPL who said that the decision has been taken by GC after consulting with the broadcaster.
BCCI is hoping to get the more fans on the ground to earn more income and fame in this season. The opening ceremony of the tournament will be held in Mumbai on April 6 and the first game will be played on 7 April of this year. IPL season 2018, is also known as Indian Premier League 11 that is the professional Twenty20 cricket league.
Format
There’re eight teams participating in this tournament in which each team will play twice in a home- and away. Four top teams will qualify on the basis of aggregate points for the playoffs. Top two teams will compete with each other and the remaining two teams will do the same but the winner of the qualifier will qualify for the final but the losing team will have a chance to qualify for the final by playing the winning team of the Eliminator match. The winner of this subsequent Qualifier 2 match will move forward for the final. The winning team of the final match will be crowned the Indian Premier League.
Mumbai Indians is the defending champion that will play the opening match of the tournament but the opponent will be revealed with after releasing the match schedule this week. Time changing is the other significant decision that is taken by GC and all the matches will begin at 5.30 pm but the night games will be played at 7 pm. It means the second inning of the first match and the first inning of the second match will overlap on doubleheader days.
The venues for all the matches have also been finalized. Kings XI Punjab will play 4 from their 7 home matches in Mohali at their home base but the remaining 3 matches will be played in Indoor. The returning of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals is very interesting. They both are looking now to make a big change in the history of IPL.
