The Meghalaya High Court founded on March 25, 2013, in the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Altamas Kabir, who by then was Chief Justice of India. This occurs after several territorial reorganizations were made for the North East Areas, and it was decided to separate the High Court of Meghalaya from the Gauhati High Court that was previously established for five North Eastern States including Meghalaya. The current Chief Justice (Acting) of the High Court of Meghalaya is the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sudic Ranjan Sen. He has been in that position since February 24, 2016, but he has been working as a Judge in the High Court of Meghalaya since its founding in March 2013. He studied his career at Shillong Law College under NEHU and has experience in both civil and criminal matters.
