MMTS means Multi-Modal Transport System is a traveler rail system in Hyderabad capital city of Telangana state. India mostly preferred for Suburban cities to make the mode of transportation easy. MMTS Hyderabad is a joint venture of the Government of United Andhra Pradesh and the SCR and is operated by the SCR railway zone. MMTS Hyderabad runs daily more than 120 trips between the major MMTS Routes Lingampally, Hyderabad, Falaknuma.
The government of Andhra Pradesh & Indian Railways both in collaboration decided to make transportation easy in Hyderabad so planned to start the MMTS project in Hyderabad & development process divided into three Phases.
Hyderabad MMTS Phase I:
The first phase was completed at a cost of Rs. 178 crore (USD37 million)
Operations Started: August 9, 2003.
Total Distance: 43 km
Stations: 27 stations
Major stations connected are Secunderabad, Nampally, Dabirpura, Malakpet, Falaknuma, Madhapur, and Lingampally.
The Diesel Multiple Units (green local trains) complement the MMTS (white-blue trains) along with few other routes like Bolaram (up to Manoharabad), Umdanagar, etc.

Phase II:
Phase II has six segments:
- Secunderabad – Bollarum – Medchal (28 km)
- Falaknuma – Umdanagar – Shamshabad Airport (20 km)
- Secunderabad – Moulali – Ghatkesar (19 km)
- Moulali – Sanathnagar chord line (21 km)
- Kacheguda – Sitaphalmandi – Malkajgiri – Moulali chord line (10 km)
Phase II project cost: Rs. 640 Crores and 65/35 share basis by state and central government.
MMTS trains on Sunday:
On Sundays, the Hyderabad MMTS local train services are limited due to fewer travelers because offices remain closed. But at the same time people come out with their families for refreshments want to travel through MMTS to reach out to their destination quickly but it’s difficult on Sundays due to limited trains. They should keen on the Sunday train timings.
Mathrubhoomi special for Ladies:
In MMTS for ladies, SCR had introduced a special train called Mathrubhoomi ladies special trains on Sept 28th, 2011 in Falaknuma route. These trains having 8 compartments each only run’s in Falaknuma to Lingampalli route. After few months of observation these trains having fewer ladies travelers & due to which the train is running empty so SCR decided to limit 5 coaches for ladies & remaining open for all general public to increase occupancy.
