Meteorological & Oceanographic Satellite Data Archival Centre – MOSDAC

Meteorological and Oceanographic Satellite Data Archival Centre of India (MOSDAC)- मॉस्डैक, मौसम विज्ञान एवं समुद्र विज्ञानीय उपग्रह डेटा पुरालेखी केंद्र

The Meteorological and Oceanographic Satellite Data Archival Centre is a data repository for several missions of ISRO or the Indian Space Research Organization. The Indian Government (भारत सरकार) created this body under the Department of Space to deal with the space programs of India.

The abbreviated form of Meteorological and Oceanographic Satellite Data Archival Centre is MOSDAC. It deals with three necessary things: tropical water cycles, oceanography, and meteorology. The Space Applications Centre designed and also developed MOSDAC. The MOSDAC website helps in disseminating the acquired date from the missions quickly at the Space Applications Centre of SAC of Ahmedabad. Get more details about the MOSDAC from here.mosdac wiki

The website also plays a crucial role in hosting weather update like massive downpour alerts, cloudburst, warnings before tropical cyclones that originate from the Indian Ocean. It also predicts the intensity of such natural disasters once every three hours, for three consecutive days.

There is a support system that supports the weather alerts and also interactively overlays collateral information when it comes to land use, DEM, administrative boundaries, land cover, population, rivers, and roads. People with Android devices can easily track the weather alerts and forecasts of MOSDAC on their mobile phones. All they need to do is download the free WeatherApp to see the weather map, India.

ISRO launched Meteorological and Oceanographic Satellitesweather update

The Indian Space Research Organization has launched several Meteorological and Oceanographic Satellites to get accurate weather news, you can find one center in Bangalore weather satellite. As examples, we may cite the names of INSAT series, Megha-Tropiques, Kalpana-1, Oceansat-1, Oceansat-2, SARAL, Insat 3dr, Scatsat, and RISAT-1.

Among the future goals of ISRO, there are plans for launching GISAT and some more satellites for the meteorological and oceanographic studies. They need to archive and disseminate all data that the Indian Space Research Organization receives from its several satellites.weather forecast india

MOSDAC or Meteorological and Oceanographic Satellite Data Archival Centre perform the task of archiving as well as disseminating the accumulated data about Indian weather Satelite. Get the weather map Indian details also.

What is SMART?smart

SMART stands for Satellite data based Meteorology and Oceanography Research and Training. It is an initiative of the Indian Space Research Organization for providing support to students, researchers and academicians in several parts of the country who dream to pursue research in this particular field, that is, Meteorology and Oceanography with the help of satellite data that MOSDAC and other relevant datasets archive. MRTD or the MOSDAC Research and Training Division manage the Satellite data based Meteorology and Oceanography Research Training. MRTD provides support like research guidance, computer facilities and also makes students familiar with MOSDAC data.

SMART offers support to academics, researchers, and students in the following areas:

  • Data analytics as well as advanced visualization
  • They make students familiar to MOSDAC
  • Data is available for free of cost in MOSDAC
  • Research guidance as well as computer facilities
