The Supreme Court asserts that no deadline regarding linking the Aadhaar
- No Deadline of Linking the Aadhaar-Supreme Court: The deadline that was given for linking Aadhaar with mobile numbers, bank accounts, and PAN card has been stretched so that people can enjoy several services, subsidies and different welfare schemes provided by the government. The final verdict has given by the Supreme Court of India regarding the Aadhaar’s validity.

- The earlier deadline for establishing a link between Aadhaar and bank accounts, Aadhaar and mobile numbers was March 31. But recently the Supreme Court has stated that till the constitution bench of Supreme Court gives its verdict in the matter, the deadline will be uncertain. The Centre said that they are ready to stretch the deadline for connecting Aadhaar with government schemes and other services. Previously it was March 31. Then the Supreme Court has taken decision jointly by five judges of the Constitution bench and their head Dipak Misra, the Chief Justice. A. M Khanwilkar, A. K. Sikri, Ashok Bhushan, and D. Y. Chandrachud.
- The deadline’s extension will be the same for connecting Aadhaar with mobile numbers as well as bank accounts. The constitution will hear a batch of Opposition petitions challenging the Aadhaar’s constitutional validity as well as the Enabling Act. If you are included among those people who have still not linked their bank accounts, mobile numbers with Aadhaar, undoubtedly good news for you. Due to the long-drawn-out hearing on the topic, K K Venugopal, the Attorney General, said on March 6 that the Centre itself was thinking to extend it.

- However, it has been made clear by the UIDAI that though the deadline to connect the present bank accounts with Aadhaar has been increased, for opening new bank accounts or getting Tatkal passports, Aadhaar still mandatory. There are many schemes related to social security have been introduced by the government where Aadhaar compulsory.
- DBT or Direct Benefit Transfer, pioneering service based on Aadhaar. Through DBT process, the welfare and subsidy amount will be directly transferred to the bank account of the candidate while earlier it was given in the form of cash or banker’s cheque. At present, there are 92 schemes sponsored by the center implemented via DBT.
