The Ranthambore Fort is situated in Ranthambore National Park near Sawai Madhopur town, which was used as hunting grounds by the Maharaja of Jaipur. Till the time India got independence Day, people came and used to hunt. It is a formidable fort located in the center of Rajasthan. This Fort famed for the bravery and glory of Hamir Dev of Chauhan Empire. Ranthambore Fort is one of the six majestic Hill Forts of Rajasthan. Other five forts are in Kumbhalgarh Fort, Jhalawar, Jaisalmer Fort, Jaipur, and Chittorgarh Fort. These Forts famed after their locations.

The Ranthambore fort built by Chauhan ruler, but the name of the ruler is still unclear. But most of the people believe that the fort built in 944 CE only during the time of Saphaldaksh. According to another legend, the fort constructed in 1110 CE in the kingdom of Jayant. Under Chauhan

Its ancient name was Ransthamb and Ransthampur. In ancient times, in the 12th century, is connected to the Jain religion of Prithviraj I of Chauhan empire. Siddsenasuri, who lived in the 12th century, described it as one of the holy and major pilgrimage places of Jainism. In the Mughal time, the temple of Mallinath built in the fort. Before the rule of Prithviraj Chauhan in the 12th century, Yadav used to rule this fort. Sultan Eltumish of Delhi had captured Ranthambore in 1226, but after the death of Eltumish in 1236, Chauhan recovered it. Subsequently, Sultan Nasir Uddin Mahmud’s army controlled later by Sultan Bolban, but in 1248 and 1253 he had to make many fortresses. But in 1259 he had recovered them from Jaitersingh Chauhan.

In 1283 Shakti Dev became the successor of Jaitrasingh and he recovered Ranthambore and his vast empire. After this Sultan Jalaluddin Firuz Khilji had all the forts from 1290 to 91.

1299 in Maharao Hammir Dev Chauhan, stayed for shelter near Rebel General of Alauddin Khilji, Muhammad Shah and refused to give the Sultan his kingdom.

Under Mewar, the fort obtained by Rana Hammir Singh and Rana Kumbh. After Rana Kumbh’s reign, his successor, Rana Udai Singh, made. Subsequently, Sultan Bahadur Shah of Gujarat captured the fort from 1532 to 1535. After this, Mughal Emperor Akbar took possession of the fort in 1569.

Ranthambore National Park is one of the largest wildlife reserves in North India, which was the conservation of majestic game. In 1955, it established as a wildlife sanctuary. This wildlife sanctuary spreads in an area of 392 square kilometers which known for tiger conservation. It is one of the best National Parks in India. For the tourists, the Wild Authority has constructed roads so that they can roam the park. It is 11 km away from Sawai Madhopur railway station.
