The history of Sathyam Cinemas
Sathyam Cinemas, which was founded by a person from Venkatagiri named Raja, was initially known as the “Royal Theater Complex.” Built in 1974, in April, Sathyam Cinemas was the most significant multiplex in Chennai those days, with 1,255 seats.

SPI Group’s present CEO, Kiran Reddy, revealed in an interview in 2012 that during the 1980s his family acquired the Sathyam Cinemas from someone. They acquired it solely for real estate without the plan of running the ongoing theatre business. Although their initial plan was the demolition of the building, later got involved and renovated the theatre. From the year 1999, the theater was owned by Kiran Reddy. He started developing the theatre from that time. Now there three extra screens and the old ones have been refurbished.

SPI’s emergence as a movie production company
In the year 2009, SPI Cinemas emerged as a company producing films. Its first work was Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru. Now it is a chief distributor of movies in the state. SPI has also joined hands with the renowned Think Music to distribute soundtracks of Telegu, Malayalam and Tamil movies.
