STPI or the Software Technology Parks is a society in India which came into existence in the year 1991. The Indian Government established it. MeitY or the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology administrates the workings of STPI. The main idea behind the establishment of STPI was to promote, encourage and boost the Software Exports that take place from India.

STPI Centers
STPI Centers are available in all parts of India. The earliest among the STPI centers are there in Pune, Bengaluru, and Bhubaneswar. These three centers came into existence in the year 1990. In 1991, the government opened STPI centers in Hyderabad, STPI Noida, Gandhinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram. STPI centers are also there in STPI Chennai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Srinagar, Indore, Kolkata, Puducherry, Aurangabad, Shimla, Durgapur, STPI Bangalore, Gwalior, Siliguri, Allahabad, Patna, Surat, etc.

STPI Scheme Highlights
The STPI is a 100% export oriented scheme for development & export of computer s/w which includes the export of the professional services like physical media or communication links.
- By single window clearance scheme, the approvals can give.
- Have an option to set up STP anywhere in India.
- 100% foreign equity permitted
- The importing of Software and Hardware in the STP units completely duty-free. Import of Secondhand goods also permitted
- Re Export of the Goods also Permitted in STP units.
- The STP units exempted from corporate income tax payments upto 2010.
- In the STPI premises, prohibited to install computer terminals.
- The computers and its peripherals can donate without payment of duties to non recognized institutions, public libraries, Indian government organizations, charitable hospitals and more. It offered for 2 years of their import.
