AP Bar Council
The 1961’s Advocates Act discusses the necessity of a Bar Council for every state in India, apart from BCI (Bar Council of India) which governs the activities of the State Bar Councils. This article is about the State Bar Council of AP.
The Bar Council of the state of Andhra Pradesh is among the most prominent statutory bodies consisting of professionals who have regulatory responsibilities like enrolling law graduates as certified advocates, regulating legal practices of the state’s advocates and also taking strict action against erring lawyers. Apart from these, it also takes up several welfare schemes and activities keeping in mind the benefits and interests of the advocates.
The AP High Court Advocates Directory consists of the names of all of the certified advocates who are practicing in Andhra Pradesh.
At present, the number of Advocates on the Andhra Pradesh State Bar Council’s rolls exceeds 97630. All of these advocates get to cast their votes during the election of the members for the APBarCouncil. The number of members of the Bar Council of AP cannot exceed 25.
Functions of the State Bar Council of AP
These are some of the features of the APBarCouncil:
- Admitting advocates to the Electorate roll
- Determining and punishing cases of ill-treatment or misconduct against the state’s lawyers
- Supporting and promoting law reforms
- Providing the money required for the election of members of the APBarCouncil
- Managing funds
- Establishing law libraries
- Performing all those functions that are available in the Advocates Act of 1961
