About Telangana Ku Haritha Haram
India’s National Forest Policy envisages covering at least 33% of the entire geographical area of the state that is the forest and tree. They aim to cover this area for the sake of maintaining ecological balance as well as environmental stability. Both ecological balance and stability in the environment are essential for the survival of all forms of life (animals, humans and also plants) on the earth for Telangana Ku Haritha Haram.
Telangana Ku Haritha Haram is primarily a flagship programme introduced by the government of Telangana with the aim of increasing the state’s tree count. At present, the state covers almost 24% of the forest, and this particular programme plans to make it 33%. Trees will be planted mainly in two areas: the regions registered under forests and the areas that are not listed within forest cover.
The approach to achieve the first aim will be multi-pronged in which degraded forests will be reinvigorated. Forests will also be provided double protection from encroachment, smuggling, fire, grazing, etc. alongside intensive programmes for soil conservation.
Social Forestry will be given significant fillip so that it can achieve its second goal. In those areas that are outside registered forests in Telangana, planting activities will take place on a massive scale. Trees will be planted in large numbers in religious places and also in different community lands, municipalities, housing colonies, industrial parks, institutional premises, etc.
They plan to plat 230 crore seedlings within three years. Government officers, representatives of the common masses and notable citizens will take part in the tree plantation programme. Several sites have been chosen by the field functionaries to plant trees. Actions will take place at the village level and then at the district level. The Telangana Ku Haritha Haram programme will be taken care of by two committees at the state level. The committees are the State Level Steering Committee and the State Level Coordination and Monitoring Committee.
