The Ministry of Human Resource Development in India is a body that is accountable for the growth of human resources in our country. The headquarters of MHRD are at Shastri Bhawan, in New Delhi. The Minister of Human Resource Development is its deciding head.

Formation history of the Ministry of Human Resources

The Indian Government established the Ministry of Human Resources or MHRD to improve the education system and to increase the number of literates in the country. The Ministry of Human Resource Development’s earlier name was the Ministry of Education. It acquired its new name in the year 1985, on 25th December.mhrd website

Objectives of the Ministry of Human Resource Development

These are the primary objectives of MHRD:

  • One of the most important aims of MHRD is formulating a National Policy on the country’s education. They also make sure that people follow it in the script as well as in letter.
  • It also takes special care of the country’s disadvantaged groups such as females, students below the poverty line and other minorities.
  • Improving quality as well as expanding access of the educational institutions all over in the country through proper planning is another matter of concern for MHRD. It also includes the schools of the regions where easy access to educational facilities is a distant dream.

  • The Ministry of Human Resource Development also encourages cooperation from other nations to make education available to all children in India. MHRD joined hands with foreign governments to achieve this goal. They joined hands with UNESCO and international universities to improve the educational facilities in India.
  • It also provides financial assistance to the deserving students who belong to the neglected sections of the Indian society. These students also get financial help in the form of MHRD scholarship and loan subsidy.
