The payment of bonus act

The payment of bonus act came into existence in the year 1965. It appeared because, during the First World War, various textile mills offered a bonus to the workers. This bonus was 10% of wages. In the year 1950, Labour Appellate’s Full Bench developed a formula to decide the bonus amount. In the year 1960, a commission came into existence in New Delhi to unfold suitable norms. Later on, the Government of India agreed with the Commission’s recommendation. They wanted to replace the Payment of Bonus Ordinance. That is why they introduced Payment of Bonus Bill in the Parliament.
