About Assam State

Assam State is one among the 29 states of India which is located in the North Eastern Region of the south of eastern Himalayas with the Brahmaputra river valley and Barak river valley. It is bordered with Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh which is located on the north, Nagaland which is located on the east, Manipur which is located on the east, Tripura, Bangladesh, Meghalaya and Mizoram which are located on the south and WB (West Bengal) which is located on the west and the Siliguri Corridor which is 22km (or) 14 miles empty of land that connects the state to the rest of the country. The capital city of AS is the Dispur and Guwahati is the largest city.

Assam Population

The Population of state is about 31,205,576 which is the 15th largest state in Indian population and the Districts are covering with an area of 78,438 square kilometres (or) 30,285 square miles, which comes 17th on the area basis.

Assam Language

The official and native language of Assam state is “Assamese” and “Bodo” where approximately 48.84% of people speak in Assamese and other official language is Bodo where 4.86% of people will speak in bodo. Bengali (27.56%), Hindi (5.88%), Nepali (2.12%), Mishing (1.90%), Karbi (1.50%), Santali (0.91%), Odia (0.87%), Kukish (0.11%) and other languages (6.05%) are also widely spoken languages in the AS state.

Formation of Assam State

The state came into existence on 15th Aug of 1947 (Independence Day) under the state reorganisation Act which. Formerly the State of AS is known as “Pragjyotisha (or) Pragjyotishpura and Kamarupa. The High Court of AS is the apex judicial body in the state.
